Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½ Dedman School of Law’s centennial celebration marking the 100^th year since our founding is the perfect time to count the ways that being a Mustang can kick-start your career in the legal profession. Though the list is long, here are 10 ways in no particular order — one for every decade since 1925:

1. Legal Clinics: Now in their 78^th year, Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½’s legal clinics give students hands-on legal experience while offering free assistance to those who otherwise could not afford representation. Clinics cover a wide variety of issues, including civil and criminal matters, child advocacy, tax, First Amendment rights, family law, and more.
2. Inns of Court: The Inns of Court program, sponsored by Haynes Boone, LLP, is an interdisciplinary approach to the first-year experience at Dedman School of Law. Through the Inns, students connect with fellow classmates, faculty, student leaders, career advisors, and alumni for a community experience that extends throughout their time at the law school and beyond graduation. In some respects, Inns are like law school “homerooms” or law school “families.”
3. Mustang Bar: The Dedman Law alumni network, or “Mustang Bar,” is second to none. With nearly 18,000 living alumni, a mentor, role model, or potential employer is never far away. Learn how you can get involved today.
4. Public Service: Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½ was the first law school in the state to require public service hours before graduation. The Office of Public Service is dedicated to developing and maintaining a diverse list of public service placements in the community so students can find an opportunity to complete their public service requirement in an area of law that interests them.
5. Tailgates on the Boulevard: Simply put, football is big here. And Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½’s membership in the ACC — and a trip to the 2024-25 College Football Playoff — has only upped the ante. This season, Dedman Law will sponsor three tailgates in the center of campus throughout the football season, so be sure to come out to the Boulevard and see firsthand what the fuss is all about.
6. Top-notch Faculty: Dedman Law’s faculty members are charged with the challenging but important work of mentoring our students and helping them to succeed as they prepare for their future careers. As leaders in their respective fields, our faculty helps bridge the gap between theory, practice, and the formulation of the law by examining the challenging legal issues the world faces. They are leaders in cutting-edge legal debates, and their work is often cited by prominent courts and in national and legal media outlets.
7. The Hilltop: Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½’s campus is renowned for its trees and grassy spaces, Georgian Revival architecture, walkable scale, and proximity to all that Dallas offers. Combine this with a never-ending range of sporting events, lectures, concerts, and , and you’ll see why the Hilltop is often listed among the nation’s most beautiful, vibrant campuses.
8. Big D: The city of Dallas is one of the leading business destinations in the United States and the world. Throughout the city are the best shopping in the Southwest, amazing restaurants, the largest urban arts district in the nation, more than a dozen entertainment districts, and much more. Blend in moderate weather, year-round sports and Southern hospitality for a true taste of the Dallas difference. Plus, it is a great place to practice law, with a strong legal community and low cost of living.
9. Degree Options: Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½ Dedman Law offers a range of graduate degrees in addition to the J.D., including a brand-new online Master of Legal Studies option starting this fall that lets non-lawyer professionals grow their careers by learning more about the law and how it affects roles in business, compliance, criminal justice, HR, and sports.
10. Fellow Students: From the Student Bar Association to the Inns of Court to hanging out in the Pit between classes, the connections you make and the friendships you nurture will last well beyond your years at Ë®¶à¶àµ¼º½.
