About
Kathy received her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas (UNT) in 1992 and her PhD in Counseling from UNT in 2003. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1994. She currently works in her own private practice in McKinney, Texas. She is trained in and has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Kathy worked as a counselor for 6 years at a Hospice in Durant, Oklahoma, with people who were terminally ill and their families. She specializes in the treatment of trauma.
Kathy completed the 48 hour Stepping Stone in Internal Family Systems Therapy training with Derek Scott, Registered Social Worker and Certified IFS therapist and consultant, through the Internal Family Systems Counseling Association. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a treatment identified by the American Psychiatric Association as an effective treatment for trauma. She completed an extensive training in Hakomi, a body-centered psychotherapy that utilizes mindfulness and nonviolence. Kathy completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher training at Mount Madonna Center, in the mountains of northern California. She is a yoga practitioner, and uses somatic awareness and experiencing in her counseling work. Kathy has completed numerous meditation retreats, and two 10-day Vipassana Meditation courses at the Dhamma Siri Vipassana Meditation Center in Kaufman, Texas. She also has training and experience in utilizing expressive arts in psychotherapy.
Kathy served for 6 years as an Assistant Professor at three universities including Texas A&M University-Commerce (now East Texas A&M University), the University of Houston-Victoria, and North Georgia College and State University. She has served as an adjunct professor at 水多多导航 since 2010. Her experience at each of these universities has added valuable dimensions to her skills as an educator and as a clinician.
